I need help finding the best ISP for me !

Beitragvon KTy » Fr 15 Dez, 2006 16:54

GrĂĽĂź Got ! :D

I just arrived in Austria (Villach), and I am looking for the best ISP offer !
I know Tele2UTA, Inode and Tkom ... Are there any others ?

By the way, what is the real (not marketing) difference between what is called ADSL and xDSL ? In France most offers relies on ADSL or ADSL2+ technology...

Obviously, I am looking for the best Down/Upload offer, with phone (real performance vs price).

Still no triple-play offer here ??

What would you recommend ?

Thanks :ok:

have a look at http://www.linea7.com/?idparent=5
maybe there are also local cable-providers.

btw: do you want phone or voip? if you want real phone you either have to take adsl or two separate lines for voice and data.

xdsl is a marketing term that most of the times means adsl and adsl2+ but sometimes also shdsl or other technologies.

What I meant was that I want a phone number and not to have to use the computer to make calls. Voip is fine as far as it is handle directly by the modem/box.

Thanks :ok:

well, both inode and tele2uta offer data + voip combinations (sil also, but they are not in carynthia) but you may be better of to take just the data-line and a separate voip-provider like sipgate. in inode's and tele2uta's offer an ata is included, whit sipgate you can either use an ata or a sip-phone or a soft-phone. http://www.sipgate.co.uk/voipshop

btw: www.hostprofis.at could also have interesting offers.

KTy, you can get DSL service via the Telekom Austria (TA), which is also available as a wholesale product from many other providers. And there are some providers that do what's called "EntbĂĽndeln" (unbundeling of local loop), which is they have their own equipment located in the switching center and only rent the last mile from the TA. The latter is very often called xDSL.

You already listed the providers that offer "entbĂĽndelt" service in Villach (see http://entbuendelt.at/?q=villach).

I strongly recommend going back to France if u want internet access at a reasonable price/performance ratio, Austria is ~ like a 3rd world country when it comes to internet access, even ppl in Vienna have worse offers than ppl in the smallest village in France probably have.

if you just want telephone and surfing, I can recommend 2 providers:

Tele2Uta.at: They offer their own xDSL with Voice over IP to reasonable prices
aon.at: They offer you a telephone connection and an ADSL connection. Prices are a bit higher, but you can be sure that you get quality.
I am from Villach and so I know that both services (tele2uta and aon) work well (Bandwidth and Quality).
It also heavily depends on WHERE you are exactly in Villach.
I am sure that the size of this "city" is really ... amazing? no... joking.

The point is: in some areas tele2uta may not be available. Well, but as long as you are not living in the forest, there shouldn't be any problems.

Happy new year !! :ok:

Just a quick questions :)

I am having the Inode offer discussed before, with VoIP. The Telekom guy came yesterday, he checked the line and told me that I will be able to connect my modem on Friday. Ok, why not... Out of curiosity, I plugged my normal analog phone and I have a dialing tone AND I can call (I called my cell phone number) !! I even managed to call back my cell phone with the number...

As I am not supposed to have a Telekom line (only internet and VoIP through the DSL modem), I am surprised !! Is that normal ??

Regards ;)
