RP-114 + inode xdsl@home einzel = true or false?

Beitragvon cordin » So 10 Okt, 2004 21:58

read and searched and searched and read... some say it works some say it doesn't... for me it doesn't but that's because i'm no genius in networking so you'll have to excuse me :)

o and why english?
i'm a swede who just moved here grĂĽssy!

being a swede i'm used to a 10mb/s connection, no limits, at 15¤/month, now this country here is just painful! :)

ok so anyway, enough of presentations, how could i get this to work? is it even possible?

peace and love to you all, understanding to me (since i may need it more atm sigh),

hi!

better forget the idea of using the RP114 with inode's xdsl@home.

you can find a list of working routers with xdsl@home on www.filipic.biz -> check out "xdsl@home ohne VoIP" (if you dont have VoIP).

i personally use the netgear FR114P, which works well if you don't have more than 253 simultaneous connections, if you need wireless lan, try the Netgear MR814.

if you have further questions -> PM or icq# 58966651

i recently discoverd that the rp114 with zyxel firmware has a WAN DHCP client so zyxel might work. thought you need to configure it via telnet.

so you can change the firmware on the router so that it does work? groovy :) risky or not?

it could work, because some of the zyxel and netgear products are exactly the same hardware, just in a different case and with a different logo on it ;)

<offtopic>
i'm just interested: why have you moved to austria? :)

haha gotta love those clever industrial spies!

so how do i do this then? :)

On the offtopic:
gf needed to move here for a number of reasons, and from what i heard you have a pretty good education on bioinformatics at the TU wien and also in graz, so, now i tagged along for the ride :)

i am learning german and do understand pretty much all of it; i just prefer to type in english since i'm fluent in that and my typing is a bit faster when you know what to write :)

half a page of german for my class took me 3 hours! well i didn't really know what to write in the assignment, so realisticly i'd say 1 page when i know what to write about should take me maybe 2 hours lol!

the RP114 is very close to it's zyxel counterpart so the firmware is nearly the same - what i learned from some other websites is, that someone made a few adaptions to it so it will work. the main reason for the zyxel firmware was, that the original RP114 firmware made the router crash wen you have about 100 connections running over it. but of course the zyxel firmware also has the zyxel specials.

i will test it on saturday or sunday in the meantime i have set up my old compaq armada 7730MT Notebook as a Router - specs in the sig.

i'd love to try that out too, but with my extreme knowledge in networking i'd just turn the thing into an icecrusher or a firealarm... :)

the part where it comes to flash the firmware is nowhere special you just have to access the webinterface go to maintanace i think and you find a menu section update firmware you just fill out the textbox there (done via a "browse" button) and say upload the router does the rest. The only problem might occour if electricity suddenly "stops" <- i can express myself very well ;P

I can send you the firmware althought the admins might not want to see it posted on the Forum so i rather PM a link to you.
